Online Gel pens offer a smooth writing experience and although they are a relatively recent addition to the world of pens they are incredibly popular. With a wealth of ink colours available including metallic colours, gel pens offer a bold alternative to more traditional inked pens. Just like a ballpoint pen using a gel pen requires pressure to be used to transfer the ink from the pen’s nib onto the paper.

Unlike traditional ink, gel ink is solid until pressure is applied to it which means that it is able to create a bolder and more opaque line. And because the ink is held in a gel this means that there are a richer variety of colours available as well as being able to have sparkling fragments of metal or glass for a unique metallic look.

Gel pens use a water based gel to suspend the pigment meaning they are able to carry a much wider range of colours such as pastel and fluorescent shades of inks that would not be possible with more traditional ink. Because of this they use more ink than a standard ball point and produce a more vibrant colour on the page.

There are a couple of weaknesses of gel pens in that they require medium to firm pressure for them to work properly, if too little pressure is applied they are prone to skipping. They are also not suited to writing on smooth surfaces such as greetings cards as they need an absorbent surface to operate correctly. That being said they still offer an incredibly versatile and enjoyable writing experience that is loved by many.
